Android Marshmallow update for 2015 Moto X Style and 2014 Moto X in Brazil and India announced

Android Marshmallow has come to Nexus devices, but it is now going to Android OEMs such as Motorola, LG, Samsung, Sony, HTC, and others so that they can deliver it to their customer bases. LG has released Android Marshmallow in Europe at this point, but Motorola has been under suspicion after announcing it would not bring Marshmallow to US carrier-locked Moto X devices – even this year’s version!

Now, though, Motorola is releasing Android Marshmallow for customers worldwide, with Brazil and India now in line to start getting Google’s latest. According to a Google+ post by David Schuster, the 2015 Moto X Style is getting updated in both Brazil and India, and the 2014 Moto X is getting updated in Brazil:

I am happy to announce that we are starting initial deployment of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade for the following devices and channels:

  • 2015 Moto X Style (3rd Gen) in both Brazil and India retail
  • 2014 Moto X (2nd Gen) in Brazil retail

Full deployment will proceed in stages over the next few weeks. It is not yet available for pull, you will receive a notification on your phone when you are able to update your phone.

Schuster also said that Motorola is planning to start pushing out the Android Marshmallow update for the 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (the US model) in the coming weeks, so US customers need not worry. Motorola hasn’t forgotten them.

Android Marshmallow brings new features such as a Doze battery-saver mode that maintains your phone’s battery life when your device is not being used, customizable app permissions, a new “harshmallows” easter egg, an alphabetical app slider for the app drawer, native fingerprint authentication support, native SD card support, and more.
