LG to use its own processor in the upcoming smartphone

We have been hearing about LG working on its own application processor for years now and the company has finally announced its first mobile application processor today called NUCLUN alongside a new smartphone that would be powered by the new application processor.

Though the processor is called NUCLUN but LG likes to pronounce it as ‘’NOO-klun’’ instead. The processor is an octa core processor which consists of eight ARM cores among which four cores are of Cortex A15 and the other four cores are of Cortex A7. The Cortex A15 cores will be clocked at 1.5GHz while the Cortex A7 will be clocked at 1.2GHz. The processor is also going to run on big.LITTLE technology meaning that all the cores will be working at the same time to get the most out of the phone with support for LTE-A CAT.6 which can obtain download speeds of up to 225Mbps.

LG did not mention anything about using their application processor in future smartphones though the company did launch a new smartphone named LG G3 Screen that will be the first smartphone to be equipped with the NUCLUN application processor.

LG G3 Screen is similar to the flagship device LG G3 but comes with an exception of a bigger screen and is equipped with a 5.9 inch display instead of 5.5 inch on the LG G3. The smartphone would only be sold in the Korean market for now as LG does not have yet plans to launch the smartphone and the new application processor globally. Maybe the company is trying to play it safe and see how the smartphone hangs up with time.

We still have to see how NUCLUN performs against other octa core processors then we would have an idea of how good the application processor from LG really is.
