Boot into Recovery Mode for Rooted and Un-rooted Android devices

Being able to enter the recovery mode on your Android device is crucial, regardless if it is stock or custom recovery because in both cases, you can complete a variety of tasks just by entering this mode. To be able to access the recovery mode, you can follow the steps included in this guide. The methods described here is suitable for Android tablets and smartphones and we will cover the process for un-rooted devices and for those that have been rooted already. You will find that booting your device in recovery mode is simple with these effective methods.

It is worth keeping in mind that whenever you buy and Android device, it will come with a stock recovery image. This can be used by users who want to carry out updates, perform maintenance, backup or optimize the device. If preferred, you can replace the stock recovery with a custom recovery solution such as TWRP recovery or CWM recovery. This will allow you to enjoy a versatile experience with your device and get more out of it. Keep in mind that in order to be able to use custom solutions, you will need to root the device first.

While rooting the device is not a complicated process, it is important that you keep in mind that it will void the warranty of your device. The good thing is that you can reverse the process by downgrading the device to stock Android OS, updating with an official version or the Android firmware or applying method to un-root the device.

In general, it is possible to boot into recovery mode by following the below steps:

  1. Switch the device off
  2. Reboot by pressing the Power and Volume up button at the same time
  3. Keep the buttons pressed for a few seconds and then release them simultaneously
  4. You should now see the recovery mode

Keep in mind that on Samsung devices, it is possible to enter the recovery mode by pressing the Power button at the same time as the Volume Up and Home buttons. How to enter Recovery Mode on Rooted devices

  1. Before getting started, you need to go to the Google Play Store and download the Quick Boot tool. You can find it in this link:
  2. Once the app is installed, run it on your device. You will be able to choose from four different options: Recovery, Reboot, Bootloader and Power Off. In this case, you need to select Recovery.
  3. That is all. Now your device will be rebooted into recovery mode

How to enter Recovery Mode on un-rooted (Locked) devices

  1. In this case, you need to use ADB, meaning that the Android SDK and Fastboot have to be installed on your computer.
  2. Once you have installed the necessary tools, plug your device into your computer using a USB cable.
  3. On your computer, go to the folder where Fastboot and Android SDK is installed
  4. Open a Command Prompt Window. In cmd do the following: press Shift on your computer, then Right-click anywhere in the folder and select “Open Command Prompt”.
  5. In the cmd window enter: “adb reboot recovery”. This is the last step. Now your Android tablet or smartphone will reboot in recovery mode automatically.
