Galaxy S7 popular due to waterproofing and camera, potential buyers say

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge went on sale worldwide in stores today, and, as you can expect, consumers were lining up all over the world today to pick up what will surely be the hottest Android smartphones of 2016 (if not the hottest phones overall). With that said, one site decided to conduct its own survey to see what consumers prefer most in their smartphone experience. The results are what you’d expect from everyday consumers: Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge buyers want better battery life, better camera performance, and water resistance.

PhoneArena’s poll, in that regard, shows precisely what matters to most customers, with the Galaxy S7’s new 12MP back camera with an f/1.7 aperture coming in No. 1 with 23.41% of the vote, the Galaxy S7 IP68 certification second with 21.65% of the vote, and last but not least, the higher capacity batteries of the Galaxy S7 (3,000mAh) and Galaxy S7 edge (3,600mAh) carrying 16.02% of the vote. The better camera performance may not necessarily be something that most consumers want (after all, most consumers seem happy with their cameras), so you must keep in mind that PhoneArena caters to a very specific tech-savvy audience. With normal consumers, however, it’s likely the case that water resistance and higher battery capacity would be the No. 1 and No. 2 priorities. Cameras can always get better, but current smartphone cameras are sufficient for most consumers (who only use them for social media, friends, relatives, and close associates).

The Galaxy S7 features a 5.1-inch, Quad HD display with a 2,560 x 1,440p screen resolution, a quad-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 32GB of storage, and a microSD card slot for expandable storage. IP68 water and dust resistance allow you to submerge the device in as much as 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes. The Galaxy S7 edge features many of the same features but also comes with a dual-curved display (for which the “edge” gets its name).

The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge feature a 3,000mAh and 3,600mAh batteries, respectively, due to the backlash last year after Samsung’s 2,550mAh and 2,600mAh batteries couldn’t get users through a full day. While we’ve yet to test the battery life of the Galaxy S7 edge in our own possession, but early testing shows that the Galaxy S7 can get 10 hours of on-screen time on a single charge and the Galaxy S7 edge can get as much as 7.5 hours of on-screen time on a single charge.
