Sniper Elite III is a stealth based shooting video game developed by Rebellion Developments and the third installment in the series. The story is set some years prior to the events of Sniper Elite V2 and revolves around an Office of Strategic Services officer Karl Fairburne and his efforts in the North African Conflict against Nazi forces during WWII. The game is published by 505 Games and is available on multiple platforms, including Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows.
Sniper Elite III boasts several new features and improvements on the mechanics of its predecessors. The game features a large variety of weapons including guns, hand grenades and RPGs, but a sniper rifle is the player’s primary weapon. Players can use Binoculars to tag enemies, so that they can plan ahead on how to kill the target. Along with sniping enemies from long distances, players can also use Tripwire booby traps, dynamite and land mines to kill their targets. Stealth mechanics have been drastically improved and enemy AI is also enhanced to make the game more realistic. The players are forced to relocate often, as enemies now react to gun-shots and search a wider area to find the player.
Sniper Elite III features eight stages, which are impressively detailed with large area and lots of hiding places with multiple objectives and sniping opportunities. Players can explore the area and kill enemies in different ways to earn points and a single level can take hours to complete. While aiming players can even hold their breath to slow time and improve their aim. X-Ray Kill-cam feature which was first introduced in Sniper Elite V2, these long range slow-motion sniping shows how the human body breaks with the impact of a high velocity bullet.
Sniper Elite III also features multiplayer gaming with huge maps and plenty of hiding places to provide better sniping opportunities with sneakiness. The multiplayer mode is like any other online shooting game and might get boring, but the game also features Co-op mode. In Co-op mode, the players can complete the entire campaign with a friend. Players can also pair up and fight against waves of Nazis in Survival mode or play as a sniper-spotter team in Overwatch mode, where one player tags the enemy through Binoculars and the other kills them using a rifle.
Sniper Elite III offers open level designs and multiple objectives with a variety of ways to kill which keeps the game interesting. The story might be weak with funny dialogues, but experimenting different ways to kill enemies from long range or booby traps and X-Ray views of skills crushing, bones breaking and testicles severing, the game provides sadistic pleasure and a memorable experience to the players.
