Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge receive Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on T-Mobile

Samsung is already bringing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to the Galaxy Note 4 (unlocked devices), but the latest news shows that carrier-locked Galaxy Note 4 devices are still getting the latest in Android Lollipop and aren’t yet ready for Marshmallow. T-Mobile has dropped the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge this past week, bringing the carrier’s own advanced messaging and video calling capabilities to Galaxy Note 4 and Edge users. Here’s the official announcement:

Beginning November 30, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will receive a software update to Android verion (sic) 5.1.1/Baseband version N910TUVU2DOK2 or N910T3UVU1DOK2. This update provides Advanced Messaging and T-Mobile Video Calling. This update is available to download over Wi-Fi or via Samsung Smart Switch or Samsung Kies.

Since Android 5.1.1 Lollipop started rolling out for these devices about 9 days ago, you should have either received it already or have it pop up on the device under “software update.” If so, you need only press that button and update your device. If you have a T-Mobile device and have yet to receive the update or haven’t received it at all, please contact your local T-Mobile carrier store to find out what may be the cause of the delayed rollout. At some point, you may be told to wait and have patience before the update makes its way to you.

At any rate, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop brings the usual bug fixes and enhancements for the year-old Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge. The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge received camera enhancements with the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update, though we can’t be sure Samsung has brought its best camera tech to these older devices. We also can’t assure you that the Note Edge will receive the Apps Edge that has made the Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 edge Plus so popular, either. As for when the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 will receive Marshmallow, we can’t say. We’ve stated here that both the Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge will get the sweet treat at some point down the line, but with Samsung, it’ll take another two months (at the earliest) until the Note 4 or Note Edge see the update. The Galaxy Note 4 is getting updated in Hungary as we speak, but there’s a lot of ground to cover between Hungary and the US in terms of the Galaxy Note 4/Edge device updates (not to mention that unlocked devices are not under the same restrictions as carrier-locked ones).
