iPhone 7 photos show a larger camera sensor

It wasn’t too long ago that we provided the words of an Apple analyst who said that Apple would bring OIS to both the regular iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. Now new iPhone 7 photos showcasing the rear cover show that the iPhone 7 will have a larger camera sensor than that used last year.

The information comes to us by way of HDBlog, an Italian site that’s gotten its hands on the photos of the upcoming devices by way of someone who is close to the production process. The iPhone 7 camera cutout for the upcoming device seems larger, suggesting that Apple intends to add a larger sensor (perhaps for OIS and camera aperture) in the next-generation iPhone. Photos of the Plus model show an opening twice as large, hinting that a dual camera setup will accompany OIS on Apple’s more expensive flagship.

Apple has been one to distinguish the two lines, but optical image stabilization (OIS) has been the one distinction, apart from resolution and screen size, in the two lines. Now, with OIS coming to both iPhones (if the rumors are right), Apple intends to find yet another way to set the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus apart.

Other rumors that we know about the iPhone 7 currently pertain to the fact that there’ll be no 3.5mm headphone jack. Apart from this, we’re sure that the devices will run iOS 10 and that Apple will likely stick with a 12MP back camera while improving lowlight performance. After all, Apple’s rival Samsung dropped the megapixel count of its back camera in the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, and, apart from the old ability to zoom in on photos, pictures are professional and capture the scene of the moment really well.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that we shouldn’t expect much from Apple’s next-generation devices, and so far, the leaks seem to confirm as much. At the same time, however, Apple can always make some last-minute decisions that change the game. All we can confirm from the photos at the source link is that they hint that there may be something extra coming to the back camera of the iPhone 7 and there may be an additional back camera coming to the Plus – but nothing is certain for now.
