iPhone backup file location on Mac & Windows

Being able to find iPhone backup locations in your computer is key when it comes to restoring images, apps, contacts, bookmark, calendar and more in your new iPhone. We will take a look at the simple steps that will allow you to find your iPhone backup location in Mac or Windows. Keep in mind that iPhone Back file ends with extension .mmdata.

You just need to look for the iPhone backup files using file extension “mmdata” or mdbackup. Simply type “%APPDATA%Apple COmputerMobileSync” and look for iPhone backup file location. Here is how to find where iTunes placed the iPhone Backup on your computer easily:

1. Open iTune
2. Go to Menus, then select Edit, followed by Preferences.
3. Select the device icon at the top. The device backup location should appear there.

Where can you find iPhone Backup files on Mac?

Try the following location:
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Note that the “~” symbol refers to the home directory of macOS

How to find iPhone backup file location on Windows

1. Enable “Show hidden files and folders” option in Windows.
2. Go to My Computer
3. In the top toll bar, select “organize, followed by Folder and search options. This option can be found in the view tab.

Go to C: UsernameAppDataRoamingApple ComputerMobileSyncBackup

Keep in mind that the username is the user name that you use on Windows. The username has to be changed to your Windows user name.

In addition, AppData is a hidden folder in Windows, meaning that you need to enable the “Show hidden and folders” option in Windows to be able to see that folder.

The importance of iPhone backup

iTunes will backup email accounts, camera roll (images), Safari bookmarks, network settings, voice memos, messages, call history, Auto fill information for webpages, keyboard shortcuts, app settings, game center account, wallpapers, in-app purchases and everything else. As such, it is crucial that you backup your iPhone data with the help of iTunes.
