Sprint announces LG G4 Android Marshmallow update

The LG G4 has started receiving its Android Marshmallow update around the world, but the coveted sweet treat from Google is now making its way to devices in the US. US carrier Sprint has now published on its official update page that the carrier is sending out the LG G4 Android Marshmallow update to its own carrier-locked devices.

The LG G4 Android Marshmallow update brings the OS number to 6.0, not the new 6.0.1 we’ve seen with Google’s release of the incremental update to Nexus devices, and brings the LG G4 up to version LS991ZV9 on Sprint’s network. The LG G4 Android Marshmallow update brings new app permissions, detailed battery stats, the new Doze mode that’s said to place your device in standby when not in use, and the “harshmallows” easter egg that will have your “bugdroid” jumping through hurdles to survive.

The LG G4 Android Marshmallow also bring some small changes to LG’s own software, but, for the most part, LG, like other Android OEMs, tries to scale back some of its own changes to highlight Google’s own software. A number of customers seem to like vanilla Android, and LG works with Google as best it can on the issue. It’s nice to see Sprint customers getting the update. If you’re a Sprint customer who owns an LG G4, head on over to the software update settings on your phone and click that button. Let us know if you got the update, what you notice that’s different, and whether or not you like the new changes.
