The Wolf Among Us: Episode 5 Cry Wolf – In 500 Words
The Wolf Among Us is an episodic adventure video game which is based on the famous comic book series Fables written by Bill Willingham. The game is set as a prequel to the comic book series and developed by Telltale Games. The first season features five episodes and The Wolf Among Us: Cry Wolf is the final episode of the season, which provides answers to many unsolved mysteries of the first four episodes. The season finale was released in the second week of July 2014 and is available on multiple platform, including Xbox One, PS4 and Microsoft Windows.
As a point-and-click adventure game ‘The Wolf Among Us’ offers a more active experience where the players make decisions with legitimate consequences and the story continues differently depending on the decisions made. The game is not only filled with ample amounts of violence and action, it also offers the players to see the results of all the decisions they made in the previous episodes. The game picks up right where it ended in the last episode and Bigby is surrounded by Crooked Man and his henchmen. Most of the side characters like Georgia, the Crooked Man and Nerissa get enough time in Cry Wolf to give a satisfying season finale. A major let down for the fans might be the lack of Snow White character, which has been a major character from the start of the season.
The Wolf Among US: Cry Wolf runs for a duration of almost 90 minutes, during which Telltale has managed to cram different storytelling genres. Unlike The Walking Dead season 1 finale, at the end Cry Wolf leaves just the right amount of unanswered mysteries to keep the player intrigued. The last 15 minutes of the game are free from violence and mostly involve dialogue trees and choices. The game is well written with great voice acting and beautiful graphics, while keeping the pace is fast enough to keep the players from getting bored. Every decision has consequences and every scene in the season finale felt necessary and rewarding to watch. Different decisions lead to different endings, both on screen and how the players make sense of the events. The main story and events remain unchanged, but characters may live or die and mysteries might remain unsolved depending on the choices made. All this makes the game’s storytelling all the more interesting.
The Wolf Among US offers a wonderful experience where the player is in control of how the main character develops. The Wolf Among Us offered some good episodes and some not so good, but without a doubt Cry Wolf is the best episode in the series. The season finale offers high paced action and covers all the storylines introduced in the series so far and neatly concluding most of them. At the moment, there is no word from Telltale if there will be another season but based on the ending it looks like we might get lucky.
