HTC Nexus phone could feature Snapdragon 821 chip

We’ve heard a report that HTC will produce at least two new Nexus phones for Google this year, though there have been few details behind the partnership between the search engine giant and the Taiwanese smartphone maker. A new report provides details regarding the processor chipset in a new 2016 HTC Nexus smartphone that will make landfall on the market later this year.

One of the new HTC Nexus phones (we don’t know which) will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 chip. Currently, all 2016 flagships that have been announced (the LG G5, Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, HTC 10die OnePlus 3, and even the soon-to-arrive Moto Z and Moto Z Force) have the quad-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor chip. The 821 hints that Qualcomm intends to make some small improvements and debut an updated processor to the 820 by year’s end (the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X were announced in September).

The existence of a Snapdragon 821 processor is interesting indeed, considering that we’ve heard that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 7 edge will bear the Snapdragon 823 processor (which hints that Qualcomm will create two new updated processors under its brand by year’s end, before the upcoming Snapdragon 830 that we’ve heard about that’s in the works for 2017). For now, though, we presume that, since Qualcomm will update the Snapdragon 820, then this will be something of a high-end device.

Alongside of the HTC Nexus (or HTC Nexii), we’ve also heard that Huawei will also sell a Nexus device as well this year, so it appears to be the case that HTC will make the more budget-friendly devices of the Nexus trio. Huawei built the high-end Nexus 6P in 2015, and, with its popularity, the Chinese manufacturer is cemented to introduce yet another high-end device this year.

At any rate, we’ll keep our eyes and ears to the ground to continue to bring you the very best news regarding the HTC Nexus (or Nexii, for plural devices).
