Amazon Prime membership price cut to $73 this weekend, online retailer celebrates Golden Globes

If you’ve been putting off Amazon Prime for the last few years, you may want to pay attention this weekend. The Jeff Bezos-led online retailer is discounting the price of Amazon Prime from $99 to $73. The discounted price will start at 9PM Pacific Time (that’s 1AM for you East Coasters), and lasts until Sunday night at 11:59 local time.

Amazon’s generosity with its Amazon Prime service has to do with the company’s two Golden Globe awards it won last week as the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards. Amazon won best TV comedy award for its “Mozart in the Jungle” TV show, and “Transparent” actor Gael Garcia Bernal won for his role in the movie about the life of a transgender parent.

Amazon Prime is the company’s special service for its customers that provides free shipping (even on products under $35), as well as access to its Music and Video on Demand services. Amazon gives students a free, 1-year subscription to Amazon Prime already, but this deal is perfect for even non-students who are interested in what the company has to offer.
