LG G5 goes global on March 31st

The LG G5 won’t be available for pre-order until March 28th, which is now 5 days away, but until now, there’d been some saying that the device wouldn’t see a worldwide release until April 1st. Well, according to Korean source The Korean Herald, the LG G5 is now set to go global on March 31st, one day before the previous rumor.

The LG G5, like its Korean competitors, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, will bring some freebies. Depending on the country and region, you could end up with a free Cam Plus (as is the case with Canadian customers) or a free LG 360 VR headset (which seems to be available for those who pre-order by April 5th).

The LG G5 features a modular design, with the bottom of the part “falling out” to allow you to not only remove the battery and replace it but also to attach other accessories, what LG calls “friends,” to your smartphone. LG is also hoping that its 360 VR headset will be popular with G5 buyers, as the company seeks to enter into the VR race and compete with its fellow Seoul rival, Samsung.

Early reviews about the 360 VR headset say that the device lets in too much light when in use, which ruins the VR experience that lets you escape from real life. In addition, the LG 360 VR headset must attach externally to your smartphone; the device doesn’t have a smartphone-powered setup like Samsung’s Gear VR, but instead, has its own display and battery. You must attach it via cables to your LG G5 smartphone in order to use it.

The LG G5 is part of LG’s commitment to trying something new, making smartphones exciting again, since the company claims that smartphones have lost that “wow” factor that makes them worth buying each year. The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge seem to be the most exciting smartphones on the market, with large batteries (3,000mAh for the Galaxy S7 and 3,600mAh for the Galaxy S7 edge) that last a long time. An independent account of the LG G5 says that the device has as much battery life as the Galaxy S7, though it only packs a 2,800mAh battery instead of the S7’s 3,000mAh battery. When it comes to the Galaxy S7 edge, though, there are few batteries that can top its experience currently. The Galaxy S6 Active from 2015 can, though, but then and again, it packs a 3,500mAh battery.

Are you excited about the arrival of the LG G5 on the world market? Is this your new smartphone for 2016? If so, feel free to let us know in the comments.
