iPhone 7 announcement: before September 12th

The iPhone 7 rumors have been few, though Apple is set for the next-generation iPhone unveil later this year. Famous leakster Evan Blass is back with some information for those who are ready for Apple’s next “batch of fruit.” According to Blass, the iPhone 7 announcement will occur before September 12th.

Blass wrote on his wall at Twitter that the iPhone 7 release will occur the week of September 12th, specifically, Friday, September 16th: “iPhone 2016 release: week of September 12th. Just to clarify, this refers to the retail release, not the launch event. To be even more specific, it should happen on Friday, September 16th,” Blass wrote in two different Twitter messages.

Usually, this means that Apple will unveil the new iPhone approximately 7-10 days before its retail release. Taking this into account, then, we can suggest that the iPhone 7 announcement will occur sometime between September 6th and September 9th. Last year, Apple announced the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus on Wednesday, September 9th, with their release having occurred for China somewhere between September 18th and September 25th. US customers received their iPhone 6s models earlier, which means that it’s likely the US ordered the iPhone prior to September 18th, say, around September 16th instead.

Since September 16th is the release date for retail stores this year, then we can confidently say that the iPhone 7 announcement will take place on September 9th (a likely date, though not confirmed by Apple at this point). Apple could announce the device on one Friday, then release it the following Friday — with its opening weekend being Saturday, September 17th and Sunday, September 18th.

The iPhone 7 announcement date seems likely to be a week before the retail release date, but keep in mind that Apple has not yet sent invitations to confirm the announcement date. Apple has sent invitations before and will do the same with this year’s unveiling, but since it’s the end of July, we’ll have to wait another two weeks or so to see Apple send out the invitations.
