Samsung rumored to be working on a rounded smartwatch

According to a latest report published on a site, Samsung is planning to launch a new smartwatch that will feature a rounded dial instead of the rectangular one found on previous Galaxy smartwatches, at the MWC next month.

There are not many details about the upcoming smartwatch but it is expected that the smartwatch is known by the name of ‘Orbis’ within the company and has a model number SM-R720. The watch runs on Samsung’s very own Tizen OS instead of the Android Wear. Android Wear is specifically developed by Google for wearable products but Samsung is ditching it for its own OS. According to Samsung, Tizen OS based smartwatches are fully compatible with Samsung’s Android devices.

The report itself does not hold much credit but according to three patents that Samsung got approved for smartwatches with rounded design, provides credibility to this report. Currently, Motorola’s Moto 360 is the king of the smartwatches available in the market at the moment. And since it also features rounded design, Samsung will have a tough competition in this category.

Samsung’s upcoming smartwatch is also rumored to have support for PayPal to make mobile payments more easy and convenient. It is not yet confirmed by any official source though. A lot of people were expecting Samsung to showcase its products at the CES this year but that wasn’t the case, maybe because Samsung is gearing up for the MWC that is scheduled to take place in Barcelona in February.
