BlackBerry Rumored To Be Releasing an Android Smartphone
Canadian smartphone company BlackBerry is rumored to be working on a smartphone that will be running Google’s Android platform. Despite the company’s revamped line of devices, consumers have yet to be impressed by what the firm has done, prompting this current rumor. Earlier, it was reported that BlackBerry was being eyed by Microsoft and Xiaomi in a bid to take over the company’s operations.
According to a source, the move to use Android will be a part of BlackBerry’s strategy to focus more on software and device management. The company’s current forte lies in mobile enterprise security and IoV (Internet of Vehicles), but as far as its smartphone market share is taken in to account; it is standing in at less than 1 percent.
Currently, it has not been confirmed on whether or not the use of Android will bring about an end to the company’s BlackBerry 10 lineup of devices. The company has stated in an email that:
“We don’t comment on rumors and speculation, but we remain committed to the BlackBerry 10 operating system, which provides security and productivity benefits that are unmatched.”
It will be beneficial for BlackBerry in the long term, since the lack of sales stem for the lack of applications that the company delivers in comparison to what consumers get if they purchase a smartphone running iOS, Android or even Windows Mobile. Google’s Android OS has always been under severe fire considering the amount of unwanted malware and applications that enter uninvited in the software’s environment.
If the rumor turns out to be true, then BlackBerry will be able to focus efficiently on making Google’s own mobile operating system secure from such malicious elements, strengthening a future venture with the advertising giant, while increasing its goodwill as a result.
The company briefly showcased a slider device on stage during the Mobile World Congress event that was held in Barcelona. Unfortunately, that were all the details that were provided on the mobile device. Perhaps this is the smartphone that the company will roll out sporting Android Lollipop or Android M. Additional details concerning this will be made available in the near future. For now, the rumor should be treated as it is; a rumor.
