Moto X 2016 spotted on Geekbench, Android 6.0.1 aboard

Moto X fans will love this news. A device has been spotted on Geekbench, a Motorola device to be exact, bearing the model number XT-1650 with “Motorola” beside it (a clear and obvious reference to the company behind the device). We don’t know Motorola’s plans moving forward, but it’s safe to go out on a limb and call this device the Moto X 2016.

The Moto X 2016 is said to come with a quad-core processor, and the model number for the processor (MSM8996) is a clear reference to the Snapdragon 820 processor that is being utilized for so many high-end Android smartphones. Clearly, whatever Motorola’s up to, this isn’t a Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus, or any other such mid-end or low-end device that Motorola could make. Android 6.0.1 is also aboard, leading us to believe that this device can be none other than the Moto X (2016).

A simple bit of deduction is in play here, but it’s justified. The Droid Turbo is another high-end smartphone Motorola manufactures, but it usually arrives by year’s end (say, October/November). Since Google is all set to unleash Android 7.0 N (we still don’t have a name yet) in October (if the new Nexus 6P 2016 is announced in September), the Droid Turbo won’t come with 6.0.1 because it’ll be somewhat behind in Android updates. New devices come with the latest, which discounts the Droid Turbo as the device in question here. Also, the device’s model number (XT-1650), seems to be close in number to the Moto X Pure Edition, which bears a model number of XT-1575. XT-1650 seems too close to be a coincidence. We’re looking at a Moto X 2016 Pure Edition (or rather, a Moto X Pure Edition 2016 model).

We should mention, though, that the Moto X (2016) will likely have the name Moto X (2016) Pure Edition as its full moniker. After all, Motorola’s selling point for this device is that it doesn’t come carrier-locked and isn’t subject to carrier bloat. This hasn’t helped the Moto X win any popularity or sales in years past, but Motorola seems to only want to sell this device to a certain kind of customer.

All in all, it seems as though the stage is set to unveil the second-generation Moto X Pure Edition. The question is, are you ready to buy it?
