Motorola ShatterShield Display System, four-year warranty, leak for upcoming Droid Turbo 2

Motorola’s Droid Turbo 2 is making the rounds in its rumors, and, with an announcement coming this week, will finally put the rumors to rest. We’ve heard about the shatter-resistant display for the device, but new evidence shows exactly how the Droid Turbo 2 will have a shatter-resistant display. The answer is found in what Motorola calls the ShatterShield Display System. A leaked document sheds light on exactly what the new ShatterShield Display System is:

Additional warranty coverage for those Products that contain the ShatterShield Display System: the ShatterShield display system is made up of 3 separate components; the display, embedded lens and a consumer-replaceable protective lens. The display and embedded lens are warranted against shattering and cracking for four (4) years from the original date of consumer purchase. The consumer-replaceable protective lens is not covered by this Limited Warranty, but should always be in place to prevent scratches and other damage to the underlying components. All other limitations and exclusions contained in this Limited Warranty (see “What is not covered” section below), including scratches and other cosmetic damage, intentional damage or abuse, and normal wear and tear, apply to the components of the ShatterShield display system.

So, Motorola is saying with its warranty that you should always have a screen protector on the device; in other words, the device will be shatter-resistant, not shatter-proof (there’s a difference). With the “consumer-replaceable” element in place, then, Motorola promises to protect the other two layers of the ShatterShield Display System for 4 years from the date you purchase the Droid Turbo 2.

Something similar along these lines is also provided for the Droid Maxx 2 smartphone, but you can get 1 free replacement for your device within a two-year period. For many customers who’ll look to move on after 2 years (or a year, for that matter, to another great device), the Droid Maxx 2 program will be enough.

As for the Droid Turbo 2 and Droid Maxx 2, both Motorola smartphones will be unveiled this Tuesday, October 27th. Stay tuned as we bring you more coverage on the next-generation Motorola devices.
