Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X price, features, and availability emerge before the unveil
Google is all set to announce the Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X tomorrow in San Francisco, but we now have some major details that fill in major holes that were left open up until today. What are those details? Let’s get into them, shall we?
Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X Price
We’ve said before that the Nexus 6P would have a $500+ price tag, at least $500, anyway, considering that rumors placed the LG Nexus 5X at around $349 for the 16GB model and $399 for the 32GB model. Well, it appears as though we hit the jackpot regarding pricing. The Huawei Nexus 6P will retail for $499.99 for the 32GB model, $549 for the 64GB model, and $599 for the 128GB model, while the LG Nexus 5X will retail for at least $379.99. Okay, so we weren’t quite right on the LG Nexus 5X pricing, but $30 won’t make that much of a difference for folks who want Google’s latest in a more affordable package, will it?
Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X Availability
As for availability, both the Huawei Nexus 6P and the LG Nexus 5X will be available in the United States from the outset. The Huawei Nexus 6P and the LG Nexus 5X are both up for pre-order tomorrow, September 29th.
Another strong rumor says that Google will not sell the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X as it sold the Motorola Nexus 6 in-stores; rather, Google will sell the two new smartphones at its own Google Store online.
No MicroSD card slot
The Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X will come without a microSD card slot, contrary to some early rumors. It seems strange, considering that Google plans to introduce microSD card support with Android Marshmallow.
Of course, one could always argue that Google is doing this to charge more for the 32GB LG Nexus 5X and the 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB Huawei Nexus 6P, but it could also be the case that Google understands that microSD cards have their share of security risks. Google has also said that microSD card support in Android Marshmallow will encrypt the microSD card on the device it is in, meaning that you won’t be able to move your microSD card from one device to another. We haven’t heard much on this front, but we may hear more about it tomorrow.
