Microsoft Lumia 950 set for November 20th Launch at AT&T

Microsoft announced its Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL on October 6th, but the Redmond company is now ready to bring its smartphone to market. As we told you earlier, the Lumia 950 is coming to AT&T alone in the US. For those who want the Lumia 950 XL, prepare to purchase it in the US only, via Microsoft’s own store website.

Microsoft may see benefit to launching an AT&T exclusive, but we think this may prove to be a terrible decision. At the same time, however, Lumias have been launched on other networks with the results nothing short of underwhelming. Microsoft is making a decision that seems a bit strange for a phone the company is hoping will bring a turnaround, but sales and time will tell whether or not the decision is the right one.

The reason for the delay after the Microsoft launch has something to do with the implementation of the Windows Hello iris scanner that scans your retina to unlock your phone’s lock screen. AT&T would launch the phone on November 20th instead of the 27th to avoid Black Friday sales. Usually, product launches come before Black Friday sales, although there seem to be a number of Black Friday sales this year launching early – some as early as November 1st.

The Lumia 950 packs a 5.2-inch, AMOLED display with a Quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440p screen resolution, a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage with a microSD card slot for expandable storage, a 5MP front camera, 20MP back camera, and a 3,000mAh battery along with USB Type-C and Qi wireless charging capabilities. The Lumia 950 is said to start at around $99 on-contract and $549 off-contract.
