Xbox at GamesCom 2015

E3 was only a couple months ago but it’s time for another big gaming trade show. Gamescom is just getting underway but Xbox has had their big media event. While they had a fairly big E3, announcing Xbox 360 backwards compatibility among other things, they left a few surprises for the European fans. Let’s rundown the announcements.

Quantum Break

From the studio that brought us Alan Wake is the new game set for a 2016 release. We get a game demo that shows the time manipulation abilities you’ll be able to use in the game.  We also see that they’ve brought some recognizable names into the game, Shawn Ashmore (X-Men‘s Iceman) will be the protagonist of the game, which will also include Dominic Monahan from Lost und Spiel der Throne Aidan Gillen.

We also got a brief look at the life action “TV show” part of the game. If this one comes together as well as it might it could be something special.

Scalebound

We get our first real look at Scalebounds gameplay. The game looks to be a hack and slash RPG, where you play as the human protagonist with your AI dragon companion. It was a good first look but they’ll be plenty more to see before the game releases sometime in Holiday 2016.

TV DVR

It’s been an ongoing rumor for several years that the Xbox One will add a DVR functionality to the Xbox One. You’ll be able to record over the air television and stream, or download it to other devices. The feature is without a subscription and will be available next year.

Xbox Chatpad

For gamers who send a lot of messages back and forth to friends, but don’t have their SmartGlass App always open, a chat pad will be available in November.

Backwards Compatibility/Windows 10 for Xbox One

The Windows 10 for Xbox One update will be available in November, and so will backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 games, we assume it will all be part of the same update. In addition to the 100 backwards compatible titles that be available when the feature releases all future 360 Games with Gold will be backwards compatible, so Xbox One gamers will have twice the number of free games.

Killer Instinct Season 3

We got a trailer for the next season of Killer Instinct with a release date of March 2016

ID@Xbox

Lots of new indie stuff from Xbox was discussed including:

Bloodstained– The recently Kickstarted game from the developer of Castlevania:Symphony of the Night will be coming to Xbox One

City Skylines– first to console on Xbox One

Train Simulator– coming to console for the first time

YookaLaylee– The spirtiual sucessor to the banjo-Kazooie franchise

Worms: W.M.D.

Thimbleweed Park– Ron Gilbert, the creator of classic adventure games like Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island will be bringing his new adventure game to Xbox One and Windows 10

Windows 10

The next segment of the show discussed the benefits of gaming on Windows 10. This included some interesting information. In addition to the ability to stream Xbox One games to your PC many upcoming titles that are available for both Xbox One and Windows 10 will have cross-buy and cross-play capabilities, meaning that gamers that own the game in one version will be able to play on the other device and that gamers on consoles will be able to play with and against those on PC.

From here it was a sprint to the finish to get all the game trailers going including :

Dark Souls 3

Homefront: The Revolution

Fifa16

Halo 5: Guardians -They focused on the multiplayer and eSports aspects of the game including announcing a forthcoming Halo World Championship.

Just Cause 3

Forza Motorsports 6

And finally their “one more thing” for the show was dusting off an old part of the Halo franchise.

Halo Wars 2
