How to Sleep, Shut Down and Restart Your Mac Using Keyboard Shortcuts

Using keyboard shortcuts are very convenient especially when you are in a hurry. Windows users are used to using these keyboard shortcuts. However, those who have just moved from Windows computer to Mac, keyboard shortcuts could be a bit confusing as they are much different compared to Windows. Using Keyboard Shortcuts to Shut Down, Restart or Put Mac to Sleep

Keyboard Shortcuts makes work faster, easier and more efficient. Through it, you could do things by pressing some combination of specific keys on your keyboard. It could do a wide range of task through a simple stroke of keys. In fact, you could shut down your computer or put it to sleep or do a quick restart.

These keyboard shortcuts is quite different when you are using Mac. Though this is the case, do not worry as they are not difficult to learn. Here are some of the techniques on how to do it on your Mac device.

Keyboard Shortcut for Shutting Down a Mac

For you to be able to shut down your Mac with the use of a keyboard shortcut, you would need to press the following:

Command + Option + Control + Eject/Power

Through this keyboard shortcut, your Mac will close all of your opened apps. Some would do it automatically while most apps would ask you if you would like to save it before you would shut down your Mac.

Keyboard Shortcut for Sleep Mode on Mac

For you to be able to put your Mac to sleep, you would need to press the following key combinations:

Command + Option + Eject/Power

If you put your Mac to sleep, you would be able to save power and let your computer rest. Do not worry as your Mac is only resting. This means, once you move your mouse or press a key on your keyboard, your computer would wake up and would be ready to be used.

Keyboard Shortcut for Restarting a Mac

For you to restart your Mac, all you need to do is to key in the following combination on your keyboard:

Control + Command + Eject/Power

Through the mentioned keyboard shortcut, your Mac would automatically quit your currently opened apps. Though this is the case, some apps would ask you if you would like to save your progress before your Mac restarts.

Keyboard Shortcut to Turn off a Mac

To turn off the monitor off your Mac, all you need to do is to key the following combination:

Shift+ Control + Eject/Power

Through this keyboard shortcut your Mac would turn off both of your internal and external display. Your screen would turn off and would turn to black.

Keyboard Shortcut to Lock a Mac Screen

If you would like to lock the screen of your Mac computer, all you need to do is to press the following key combinations:

Control+Command+Q

You could need to enter your password or FaceID for you to be able to unlock your computer.

Keyboard Shortcut to Log Out of a Mac

There are two ways for you to be able to log out of your Mac. The first one is by shutting down or restarting your Mac. To do this, you would have to press Shift + Command + Q. This key combination would ask you if you would like to log out. Once you confirm, the computer would log you out.

If you do not want to be asked for confirmation and log out immediately, all you need to do is to press Option + Shift + Command + Q.
