Windows 10 Mobile comes to Windows Phone 8.1 devices
Yesterday, Microsoft rolled out its latest mobile OS update, Windows 10 Mobile, to Windows Phone 8.1 devices as part of a promise made back in December. Microsoft has a very limited list of smartphones available for the Windows 10 Mobile update at the moment (with many high-end Lumia devices on the list), but Windows 10 Mobile brings some unique features to what Windows Phone fans would already call a great operating system.
Among the Windows 10 Mobile update comes Microsoft’s new Edge web browser that “helps you go beyond browsing and get more done on the web. Experience the thrill of writing or typing directly on webpages,” Microsoft says. Alongside of the capabilities of Microsoft’s new web browser for Windows Phone/PC users, Windows 10 Mobile also brings greater Cortana integration, “Continuum,” a feature similar to Apple’s “Handoff” that lets you transition from the big screen (PC) to the small screen (tablet or phone) and pick up where you left off; Windows Hello, a feature that lets you log into your files with a smile; and Xbox and Windows 10 integration, whereby you can connect and play games against friends, relatives, and colleagues — whether they’re on a Windows 10 Mobile device or an Xbox (Microsoft is responsible for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, for those who may not know).
The Windows 10 Mobile update-eligible devices are as follows: Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 (1GB), 636 (1GB), 638 (1GB), 430, 435, BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q, MCJ Madosma Q501.
