Many gamers play the backwards compatible Black Ops 2 version on Xbox One. This is why it is highly recommended to go back and check again the Ice Staff upgrade process.
In this article, we shall go through a step by step guide where you will learn how to upgrade the Ice Staff in Origins. This includes how to obtain the original blue discs, gramophone and completing the base ice staff.
The Ice Staff is considered by many gamers as one of the best in Origins. In fact the freezing of zombies and watching them shatter and crumble provide a great gaming experience. Though this might seem a great way to help you in your game play, unfortunately, the frozen zombies could block your escape route. This could lead to a disaster especially when you are being overrun by a horde.
With the upgraded Ice Staff, you would no longer have to worry about your escape route being blocked as the staff is charged to cause massive blizzard which would suck zombies.
How to Get the Ice Staff?
When find staff in Origins, it is required to find three parts – 1 colored disc, 1 black disc and gramophone. With the Ice Staff, on the other hand, would need the parts to be blue – blue disc and gramophone must be used to open the Blue portal.
Disc Location
You would find the blue disc inside the building. It is located next to the generator 2 which is either on the front table, weapon box shelf or shelf next to the rear door.
Parts Locations
Unfortunately, the Ice Staff parts have no set locations. Though this is the case, they have specific requirements. For example, you would need to wait for snow and dig the rubble piles on the floor to find parts of the Ice Staff. You would need to open every section of the map until you find all three parts.
Black Disc
Black Disc is used with the Gramophone in order to open the lower level of excavation site. The black disc could be found in one of the following locations.
- On a box which is found at the bottom of the walkway which leads to the excavation site. This is near the Generator 2 side.
- On a box which is found at the opposite side of the excavation site. This is near the entrance which leads to the church.
- Top of the excavation site. In a wheelbarrow beside PaP.
Gramophone
The Gramophone could always be found inside the central excavation site which is a dig site. It is one level downstairs on the floor. This means, you will have to open the bottom section of the excavation site to get the Gramophone.
The Gramophone be moved to the table to open the secret sub level with the staff statues.
Final Step
When you have all the parts completed, you would have to go to Generator 6 which is back of the church. Go down the tunnel and put the gramophone on the table. Wait for the blue portal to appear and go into the crazy place. Get the crystal from the blue pedestal and leave the crazy place by rebuilding the blue portal. Lastly, go back to the central excavation site. At the bottom level, build the staff using the statue.
Upgrade Steps
Solve the Ice Staff Puzzle
- Go to the crazy place through the blue portal
- Look up
- Take note of the slabs with blue symbols.
- Take note of the blue symbol on the wall.
- Solve the puzzle with the use of the Ice Staff
- Shoot the correct slab on the ceiling which corresponds to the symbol on the wall.
Puzzle Codes
Shoot the Gravestones
You would need to leave the crazy place to go back to the outside world. You would need to shoot three time on the gravestones with the use of your Ice Staff and then shoot with a regular weapon.
Gravestone 1
Face the excavation site from the mud pool. This is on the Generator 6 side of the map.
Gravestone 2
The Gravestone is outside of the map boundary. It is the mud pool with the soul box which is adjacent to the Generator 6 Jug area. The gravestone is facing away from the Jug.
Gravestone 3
This is outside the rear of Generator 2 building. You would notice a lot of mud. Search for Robots arm outside of the maps boundary. You would find the Gravestone beside it.
Line Up the Gems
- Go to the lower level of the excavation site. This is where you would see the Staff statues.
- Take note of the circular rings floating
- Each ring has four colors
- Rotate the rings until all gems that are lined up are all blue.
- To rotate the rings, pull the levers located at the lower level of the excavation site – on the wooden scaffolding platforms.
- Use your Ice Staff to shoot the blue orbs at the bottom of the rings.
Charge the Staff (Collect Souls)
Go back to the crazy place through the blue portal. Put the Ice Staff on the pedestal where you picked up the gems. Kill 2 to 30 zombies to charge the staff. Once done, pick up the staff again and the upgraded version of the Ice Staff is now yours to use.
