Google Play Summer Sale – Games Up To 90% Off
We just got wind that there is a big sale going on at Google Play. It seems that some games are being marked down up to 90% off. These aren’t just your average throw away games either! Among them are some truly fantastic games, well deserving of all the critical acclaim they’ve received.
A personal favorite of mine, Valiant Hearts: The Great War, has episode 1 (of 4) on sale for $0.99 with the other 3 episodes available in game for about $8. This means the whole game is about 50% and well worth it! Valiant Hearts takes a very serious, thoughtful look at World War I and really immerses you in the story. I was immediately captivated with the story that has you feeling genuine emotions for your characters and starts pulling at the heart strings almost immediately. The beautiful artwork really makes it more akin to watching an interactive movie than playing a mobile game. It’s a real steal at under $10 for the whole game.
With that said, my golden rule has always been to try to stay under $1 and luckily there are some fantastic games available at the moment for under a dollar. The first one I’ll go over is Monument Valley; a game I was unfamiliar with until about an hour ago but I instantly fell in love with it. Part of that may have been due to how much it reminded me of one of my all-time favorite games, EchoChrome.
Echochrome has always been one of my go to examples for a game that really wowed me. I’m notoriously hard to please with games and rather than huge production values I look for games that either A)Show me something I’ve never seen before (Heavy Rain is another favorite that fits that category) and/or B) Makes me feel a strong emotion of some kind.
Of Echochrome, I had always said, “I’ve never seen anything like it before or since.” Well, that’s no longer true as this clever and beautiful puzzler instantly stole my heart with the way it plays with perception to make some truly remarkable game play, sometimes reminiscent of an MC Escher painting. If you like Puzzler games, this is definitely the one to spend a dollar. It has a 4.7 rating with well over 100 thousand reviews! This is one of the rare, universally loved, games.
The final game I’ll cover is another widely acclaimed game that, like Monument Valley, got perfect scores from nearly all the well known game reviewers like Kotaku, The Escapist, Jostiq, etc. At its base Limbo is a side scrolling platformer but to label it a simple platformer would be a disservice. This game is incredibly well thought out and forces you to interact with your environment in atypical ways. On top of the dark, somewhat creepy art work is at once beautiful and chilling. Without wanting to ruin too much about the game, it has very well thought out game mechanics, beautiful artwork, and a story that keeps everything together very nicely. Another must have for just 99 cents.
Quick honorable mention to Hitman Go which is a fantastic, minimal reimagining of the popular series. Using a simple turn based system the creators have made a fun little strategy game that stays true to the spirit of it’s predecessors. It’s also hard not to mention The Dark Knight Rises and GTA:China Town Wars which both look and play really well for mobile games and finally The Room which is possibly one of the best looking puzzle games out there right now.
